Google is where people search for what to do, where to go, and what to buy. If you’re a small business owner who wants to start capitalising on the astronomical number of searches that take place on Google daily, there’s no better way than by signing up to use Google Ads (44% of mobile internet users use google every day and 24% use it every week - according to data shared by Google South Africa during one of their masterclasses). Your ad can appear on Google at the very moment someone is looking for products or services like yours. Whether on desktop or mobile, a well-timed ad can turn that person into a valuable customer.

Here are some of the reasons why you should consider using Google Ads if you’re a small business owner or entrepreneur wanting to get more traffic, leads or sales from your website:

  • Reach people who are looking for your products or services

  • Target a specific demographic

  • Direct people to your landing pages

  • Keep a tab on the results

Increased leads and customers

Google Ads is one of the best tools for lead generation. If your campaigns are set up correctly, it has the potential to send extremely targeted and qualified leads to your website, opt-in form, or social media pages. Google Ads allows a business to focus on the people who are searching specifically for what they want. This means your business’s searches can be continually refined so that only people who want to buy your products or services are sent to your websites through this platform.

Discover more about your market

Understanding your audience makes it much easier to deal with customers and find out what they want. This has always been something that’s difficult to do and requires a lot of research, but Google Ads has changed this. It yields information about customer habits and requirements that can assist your business in better understanding your customer. This includes data on keywords customers use to find your website, their location, devices they use, and times and days of the week they’re searching.

You can use this information to change your products and services or refine marketing efforts, so you don’t waste budget on advertising to people who aren’t interested in your business.

3 steps to set up a new Google Ads account
  1. Choose or create your Google account: To create a Google Ads account, you need a regular Google account. If you use Gmail, that means you already have a Google account so you can skip to the next step. But if you don’t have a Gmail address or if it’s a personal email address, you’ll want to create a separate account for your business. To create a Google account, go to accounts.google.com and then click ‘Create account’.

  2. Sign up for Google Ads: To sign up for Google Ads, make sure you’re logged in to the Google account you just made and go to ads.google.com. Once you’ve chosen your account, you’ll be shown the first step for setting up a new campaign. Don’t worry, you can just set up a simple campaign and then pause it if you’re not quite yet ready to go live.

  3. Set up your first campaign: Now Google will immediately take you to the first step of setting up a Smart campaign. Click on “Switch to Expert Mode”, which will allow you to create a campaign from scratch. And you’re good to go with your first ad campaign!

With its reach and authority among other search engines, Google Ads is one of the most powerful advertising tools a business can use. From search campaigns to shopping ads, there are so many ways to create the best campaign for your business and its audiences. By taking advantage of all the features Google Ads has to offer, there’s no question you can develop a successful marketing campaign for your business.
